“Do you want to try Denny’s, we go there for breakfast 5 times a week”… that was the answer I received when I asked my friends where to go for breakfast in Honolulu. Now these friends are regulars to Hawaii and must know what they’re talking about and I also wanted to try what a typical casual American diner experience is like.
I arrived there early, and there were still plenty of seats available. Now, you will never be too early arriving at Denny’s as they are open 24 Hours. Yes, you heard right, you can dine at Denny’s any time of the day.
As soon as I sat down, I dived into the menu. There is a lot of variety there including your typical breakfast menu, the $2 $4 $6 $8 value menu and healthier options. I ordered their quesadilla, hot chocolate and french toast from their $2 $4 $6 $8 menu. Who could resist a $2 french toast!
Service was quick. First came the hot chocolate, tasted like a typical hot chocolate. it came with cream on top, and the best part unlike other places I’d been to, you get free re-fills of your hot chocolate.
The french toast was nice, I could go back for more.I would recommend it. And for $2, it was certainly value for money. The quesadilla came a bit later. It was quite a generous portion and came with corn chips. It had a nice balance of filling, the meat, cheese and some vegetables.
All in all, I would recommend Denny’s if you want a typical American Diner experience that’s value for money. The service is quick and the food is as expected.
Other things to try on the menu if you’re super hungry – Lumber Jack Slam (buttermilk pancakes, ham, bacon, sausages links and eggs, hash browns and a choice of biscuit, muffin or toast) or the very American Country-Fried Steak & Eggs (golden-fried beef steak smothered in rich country gravy, two eggs, hash browns and choice of biscuit, muffin or toast).
Denny’s is located on 205 Lewers St, Honolulu and is open 24 hours.
